How to export your Messenger chat
Facebook (app or website)
- Menu → Settings & privacy → Settings → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Export your information.
- Tap Create export → pick your Facebook profile → Export to device.
- Customize the information: only Messages. Date range: All time. Format: JSON.
- Tap Start export, wait for the email, download the .zip and pick it in Momentario.
End-to-end encrypted chats
- Most Messenger chats are now end-to-end encrypted and may be missing from the export above.
- In Messenger: Settings → Privacy & safety → End-to-end encrypted chats → Message storage → Download secure storage data.
- Pick the .zip you get in Momentario.
Good to know
- It must be JSON. If you got HTML files, request the export again and choose JSON.
- If the export has several chats, Momentario lets you pick one.
- Menu names change from time to time; look for “Export your information” or “Download your information.”
