How to export your Telegram chat
On a computer (Telegram Desktop)
- Install Telegram Desktop (Windows, Mac or Linux) and sign in by scanning the QR code with your phone.
- Open the chat and click ⋮ at the top right → Export chat history.
- Tick Photos if you want them in the book. Format: Machine-readable JSON (HTML works too).
- Click Export, then Show my data.
- Drag the whole ChatExport folder into Momentario, or zip it first (right-click → Compress) and pick the .zip.
On your phone
- Telegram’s iPhone and Android apps can’t export chats. Your chats sync to Telegram Desktop, so use a computer for the steps above.
Good to know
- A newly signed-in Telegram Desktop may make you wait 24 hours before the first export.
- Secret chats are never included in Telegram exports.
- A whole-account export (Settings → Advanced → Export Telegram data) works too: Momentario lets you pick the chat.
- Only result.json, without the photos folder? That works, the photos just show as small 📷 notes.
What you get
- A print-ready A5 PDF with a cover and a chapter for every month.
- Your photos next to the messages, when they’re in the export.
- A free Wrapped to share and a free preview before you pay (US$8.99, one-time).
- Everything happens in your browser: your chat is never uploaded.
Questions
JSON or HTML?
Both work. JSON is the most reliable; choose it if you can.
Can I do it from my phone?
Not with Telegram itself: exporting only exists in Telegram Desktop. Once you have the file, Momentario works on any phone or computer.
