How to export your Instagram chat
In the Instagram app
- Go to your profile → ☰ → Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Export your information.
- Tap Create export → pick your Instagram profile → Export to device.
- Customize the information: only Messages. Date range: All time. Format: JSON (not HTML).
- Tap Start export. Meta emails you when it’s ready (from minutes to a couple of days).
- Back in Export your information, tap Download and pick the .zip in Momentario. If it has several chats, you choose one.
On a computer
- Same steps at accountscenter.instagram.com → Your information and permissions → Export your information.
Good to know
- It must be JSON. If you got HTML files, request the export again and choose JSON.
- Big exports come split into several .zip files: select them all at once.
- Reactions and “liked a message” notices are left out; shared posts and reels show as a small 🔗 note.
